Jason Birnhak, MD

Andrew Miller, MD

Sunil Kukreja, MD

Dr. Sunil Kukreja is an orthopedic-trained surgeon with additional subspecialty fellowship training in simple and complex spine surgery. He completed his medical school and orthopedic residency training from prestigious institutions in India before acquiring advanced clinical skills through fellowship programs at some of the most reputed institutions of the United States, including Harvard University.

As part of his orthopedic surgery residency, Dr. Kukreja has obtained surgical training in a wide range of general orthopedic pathologies -namely trauma, joint reconstructions, and sports medicine. However, he developed special interest in spine surgery and intended to pursue extensive and comprehensive training in this subspecialty. He dedicated extensive time performing clinical research at LSU Health Sciences (LSU-HSC), Shreveport, mainly focusing on the outcomes of minimally invasive spine surgery and spinal tumor resection procedures. He presented his findings in the annual academic spine meetings, namely AANS and CNS.

Upon completion of his research projects, he continued working at LSU-HSC as a clinical spine fellow for the year 2014-15. He obtained training in the surgical management of common spinal ailments including disc herniation, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis along all the major spinal segments; cervical, thoracic and lumbar. In the year 2015-16, he moved to Ohio State University to acquire advanced fellowship training in complex and deformity spinal procedures.

He later joined a Harvard fellowship pediatric orthopedic and spine program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston for the year 2016-17. During his stay at Harvard, he focused on obtaining the surgical skill set for the management of scoliosis deformity in the pediatric as well as in the adult age group. He also performed several general pediatric orthopedic procedures including the treatment of fractures, sports injuries, and dysplastic hip. He recently completed the spinal fellowship training at Buffalo University for the year 2017-18, where he mainly participated in minimally invasive spine surgeries including MIS-TLIF, minimally access lateral and oblique lumbar fusions.

Dr. Kukreja is a strong proponent of minimally invasive, endoscopic and small access spinal procedures. His special interests are microdiscectomy and laminectomy, minimally invasive and open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion, anterior and posterior cervical fusions, ventral access lumbar fusions including lateral, oblique and anterior fusions and spinal deformity as well as scoliosis surgeries.

Alexandre B. De Moura, MD

Dr. Alexandre B. de Moura is an internationally recognized leader in spinal wellness. Daniel M. Dorri, MD, FABMR

Dr. Dorri is a board-certified, fellowship-trained physician, specializing in pain management, physical medicine, and sports medicine. He has long been lauded as a pioneer in minimally invasive base spine and orthopedic pain management, performing the most sophisticated ultrasound-guided and minimally invasive procedures in the area.

Dr. Dorri’s medical training is extensive as it is impressive, dually trained in both the best universities of Iran and the United States. Joseph Pyun, MD

Dr. Joseph Pyun is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in spine surgery. He is a clinical assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the New York University School of Medicine. Born and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Pyun graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University. He then obtained his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry – New Jersey Medical School. He subsequently completed an orthopedic surgery residency at New York Medical College – Westchester Medical Center, a busy level 1 trauma center, where he served as chief resident during his final year of training. Dr. Pyun completed a spine surgery fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the world-renowned R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Pyun has been trained in modern surgical techniques including minimally invasive procedures and will tailor a treatment plan for each individual patient to achieve the best possible outcome. Jesu Jacob, MD

Dr. Jacob continued with further subspecialty training with a fellowship in sports medicine and adult reconstruction at the University of South Alabama’s Center for Joint Restoration under the direction of Albert Pearsall IV, MD. There, Dr. Jacob provided coverage for division 1 athletes at the University of South Alabama as their orthopaedic surgeon and as a fellow provided care for many professional athletes. Marc M. Levinson, MD

In practice for over thirty-five years, Dr. Levinson graduated with honors from St. George0s University in Grenada and received the Abdool Islami Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Basic Medical Sciences. Dr. Levinson completed an internship in internal medicine at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, an affiliate of John Hopkins University Hospital. He completed his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at New York University's Rusk Institute and was chief resident of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Bellevue Hospital Rehabilitation Center.

For fourteen years, Dr. Levinson served as the Medical Director of Pinecrest Rehabilitation Hospital in Delray Beach, Florida. While there, he served on the State of Florida Brain & Spinal Cord Injury Advisory Council and was an Inspector for the State of Florida Spina Cord Injury Council and the Florida State Inpatient Rehabilitation Committee. Alkies Lapas, DO

An honorary graduate of Rutgers University, Dr. Alkies Lapas received his doctorate of medicine from LECOM in Erie, PA, and completed a radiology residency at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ. Following residency, he pursued a subspecialty fellowship in Neuroradiology at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, CT, serving as Neuroradiology Division Chief Fellow as well as attending radiologist in the departments of Neuroradiology & Emergency Medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He has since been
appointed Adjunct Clinical Instructor of Neuroradiology by Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, participating in rotating medical student and radiology resident education and supervision in both private and clinical practice. Natalio Damien Jr., MD

Dr. Natalio Damien Jr., MD is a diagnostic radiology specialist and has been in practice for over 30 years. Dr. Damien graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1985. He completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Winthrop University Hospital from 1985 to 1989 where he served as Chief Resident. Following residency, Dr. Damien pursued a subspecialty and completed his Fellowship in Cross Sectional Imaging at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Damien currently serves as a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and is affiliated with many hospitals and imaging facilities throughout the metropolitan area.

Stephen P. Toder, MD
Radiology

Dr. Toder was born in Brooklyn, New York. He went to Midwood High School, then to college at Oberlin College, Oberlin Ohio, majoring in Biology. Dr. Toder did his medical school training at NYU School of Medicine, and then post-graduate Internal Medicine Internship at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center, finally Radiology Residency at NYU/Bellevue, with an extra year fellowship in Abdominal Radiology. He was board certified in Diagnostic Radiology in 1980.

Dr. Toder worked in the Radiology Department at Orange Memorial Hospital in Orange, New Jersey from 1981 until the hospital closed in January 2004. In recent years, he has worked at East Orange General Hospital and Hudson Regional Hospital and at various out-patient radiology and MRI centers.

Michael Gerling, MD

Dr. Gerling specializes in surgical treatments of spinal disorders. A Canadian native, Dr. Gerling attended the University of California, Berkeley undergrad, UC San Diego medical school, Orthopedic residency at Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA, and Spine Fellowship training with Henry Bohlman at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He is a fellowship-trained, American Board Certified spine surgeon with advanced specialty training and extensive experience in complex cervical disorders, and minimally invasive techniques for treatment of spinal trauma, degenerative disorders or aging of the spine, and spinal deformity.

An active academic, Dr. Gerling is engaged in education and research. He has authored multiple clinical and basic science research papers, abstracts and textbook chapters, he frequently moderates research symposia, teaches courses for international spine societies and speaks at national and international conferences. He is an editorial reviewer for multiple journals, and he is a course instructor for the only spine surgical skills course offered at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) meeting. As a member of multiple research societies, including the Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS), Lumbar Spine Research Society (LSRS), North American Spine Society (NASS), and the Herndon Society, he is past President of the Brooklyn Orthopedic Society and a Fellow of the AAOS. He currently sits on the Program Committee for the Spine section of the AAOS, LSRS, and CSRS.

Jason M. Gallina, MD

Michael Jurkowich, MD

Dr. Michael Jurkowich is one of our physicians and is a board-certified Physiatrist as well as fellowship-trained in Interventional Spine and Sports Medicine. He completed his fellowship training at Alabama Orthopedic Spine and Sports Medicine Associates.

Prior to this, he completed his residency training at the State University of New York, Downstate, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.

Dr. Jurkowich attended Ross University School of Medicine where he graduated with High Honors.
