Dr. Mohammad Athar is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery, with additional expertise in hip and knee reconstruction and orthopedic trauma. He is committed to delivering advanced, patient-centered orthopedic care that prioritizes both function and quality of life.
Dr. Athar completed dual fellowship training at the University of Toronto, first focusing on hip and knee reconstruction, followed by specialized foot and ankle surgery training under internationally recognized surgeons Dr. Timothy Daniels and Dr. Johnny Lau. His training included high-volume experience in joint replacement, total ankle arthroplasty, minimally invasive techniques, and complex lower extremity reconstruction.
He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, where he gained extensive experience in trauma, oncology, and pediatric orthopedics through rotations at University of Toronto–affiliated centers. Dr. Athar earned his medical degree from University College Cork in Ireland and holds both a Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Biology from McMaster University.
Dr. Athar is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is also certified in MAKO robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive foot and ankle techniques.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Athar remains actively involved in orthopedic research, with publications in peer-reviewed journals including the Canadian Journal of Surgery and Foot & Ankle Orthopaedics. His approach emphasizes thoughtful evaluation, clear communication, and personalized treatment plans—often prioritizing conservative care before considering surgical intervention.
